PARADIM alumna Berit H. Goodge, who earned her Ph.D. in applied physics from Cornell University in 2022, has been named a 2022 Schmidt Science Fellow. This prestigious program identifies early-career scientists with extraordinary potential, supporting them in making significant future contributions to society.

As a Schmidt Science Fellow, Goodge will undertake a postdoctoral placement at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, Germany. Building upon her doctoral research in electron microscopy, she plans to design and synthesize new quantum materials, expanding her expertise into the realm of materials fabrication.

Reflecting on this opportunity, Goodge stated, "My research at Cornell has always involved close collaborations across several departments and a diverse range of expertise, so I know firsthand how that approach can drive science forward in unexpected ways."

The Schmidt Science Fellows program, an initiative of Schmidt Futures in partnership with the Rhodes Trust, aims to develop the next generation of scientific leaders by providing them with the skills and perspectives to harness interdisciplinary approaches to tackle the world's most pressing problems.
